Adventures of Sultan Muhammad Ghori in India
Since the main objective of Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi’s seventeen invasions was to crush the military and economic power of the Hindus so that it would be easier for the later Muslims to establish an Islamic state. Sultan Ghori expressed his intention to continue this campaign as soon as he ascended the throne and started preparations to make India a part of the Muslim Empire.

First Tarayan War

This was the first phase after a gap of almost two hundred years when the Muslims lined up to compete with the Hindus. About one hundred and fifty kilometers from Delhi, the Muslim and Hindu armies had come to compete with each other in the field of Tarain. The Muslim army numbered nearly two hundred thousand, while the Hindu army consisted of three hundred elephants, two hundred thousand horsemen and innumerable foot soldiers, led by Raja Govinda Baat of Delhi himself. The Muslims had never seen such a large defensive wall of elephants before and the Muslim horses were not familiar with elephants.

Battle strategy of Sultan Muhammad Ghori
On this occasion, Sultan divided his army into three parts Memna, Mesra and Qalb. Sultan Ghori made his center in the middle. When the Hindu army collided with a wall of elephants, the horses of the Muslims were scattered. They stood as a wall, but the pressure of the elephants and the numerical superiority of the Hindu army was so great that the feet of the Muslim army began to slip.

The defeat of the Muslim army

The Hindu king Govinda rode in front of the sultan riding a ha thi and the two kings fought hand to hand and both the kings were seriously injured. Earlier sultans used to fall in the battlefield, one of his slaves came forward and supported him and left the battlefield after sitting on a horse. Become a Sultan. After Sultan Ghori withdrew from the battle, the Muslim army began to disperse and a general retreat was ordered.

This was the first defeat of the Muslims by the Hindus since Muhammad bin Qasim. The Sultan could hardly reach Lahore with his raw army. Before returning to Afghanistan, he had decided that he would return soon and avenge his defeat.

The defeat in this campaign was due to the Sultan’s chiefs who retreated instead of facing the elephants and despite the Sultan’s bravery, the Muslim army faced defeat. Sultan Ghori decided that until he avenged his defeat, he would neither go to his wife and children nor take off the bloodstained clothes he had worn during the war.

Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti came and settled in Ajmer

Since the reign of Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi, saints had started coming and settling in India and were illuminating the polytheists with the light of Islam with their spiritual power. Just as during the reign of Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi, Hazrat Ali bin Usman Hajwiri came and settled in Lahore and Hindus were accepting Islam one by one at his hands, similarly, after about one and a half hundred years, Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin, the greatest sage of the Chishti line, Chishti (may Allah have mercy on him) came and settled in Ajmer for the purpose of preaching Islam.

Before coming to Ajmer, he had received the blessing of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani’s company and before coming to India, he was given the good news of his success and victory and the good news at the time of attendance at Ruza Rasool (peace be upon him) by some elders. It has also been written in the books that the title of “Sultan of India” was given to him by the Prophet h…
